Bear Valley is a very cool place. The Lodge was built in the 60s and offers comfy, no-frills rooms, as well as a lovely lounge for us all to gather together and hang out. Earplugs may be a good idea if you’re a light sleeper. There is no A/C, so open your windows for that fresh mountain air! The Lodge does not provide hair dryers in the rooms so please bring your own, or arrange to share. There will be a heated pool at the resort for guests to enjoy.

“Glamping” tents are a sweet option if you’re looking for the most scenic experience, and are located a 10 minute drive from the Lodge. The wedding reception will be at the same location as the glamping tents on Saturday night. Therefore, the main Lodge will likely be the quietest option. The bride and groom will 100% be glamping on Saturday night!

We love kids! If yours are cool they are welcome to come hang at the Lodge for the wedding weekend. Only children of immediate family at the ceremony, please, and the reception afterwards will be adults-only. If your kids will be joining us for this 3-day rager, connect with Robin if you’re interested in group childcare at the Lodge on Saturday night. Otherwise, leave the littles at home and come play!

FUN FACTS

Historical Highway 4 was a trans-Sierra trail into California for gold prospectors in the 1850s. Initially, Bear Valley was the home to a very small road station providing service and supplies along the wagon trail to alpine travelers, horses and oxen. The road station in Bear Valley was well-known by local trail workers for delicious home-baked pies from valley resident Miss Reba.

Present-day Bear Valley is still a tiny mountain village. There are a few places to eat directly at the Lodge, including the Smokin’ Barrel coffee shop in the morning, the General Store with a deli, snacks and cold drinks during the day, the Sky High Pizza and Pub and the Creekside Bistro for dining in the evening. Just above the middle of nowhere, 7 minutes up the hill, there is a restaurant at the Lake Alpine Resort with a yummy bar and grill. The town of Arnold is also a nice place to stop for services on your journey to Bear Valley. Happy trails!
